Sue Hiland

I made a career change to primary teaching in 2014 after a long career in adult education and instructional design. I bring to my teaching a lifelong love of reading and children’s literature. I was lucky to make a quick detour between careers to manage a bookshop which served to only strengthen my passion and commitment to teaching literacy.

During my time in the classroom, I became alarmed by the number of students not reading proficiently and unable to access the real joys of reading and began the detective work of finding out why.

I have completed both Sounds-Write and Reading Simplified training in Systematic Synthetic Phonics. I am currently completing the new specialisation of Language and Literacy in the Masters of Education at Latrobe University.

Perhaps most satisfying of all, along with my partner, I have raised and educated two wonderful young adult men (who are both avid readers)!
